Do I have to get custom drapes?

August 23rd, 2008 at 05:07 pm

I ordered new blinds for my condo living room. The vertical slats for the sliding door came in yesterday and I’m still waiting on the wood blinds for the large window. The cost for the two came to $730.

The vertical blinds were installed yesterday and they are nice enough, but they make noise (squeak) when I pull them shut or push them open. And, I bought new drapes which were 95” long and they are TOO SHORT! The drapes cost me $100 and I have to return them. What I need are 100” drapes. Guess what? They don’t make 100” drapes. You have to buy 108” drapes and get them hemmed.

So, I’m considering getting drapes custom made. I have no idea how expensive that will be. Has anyone done that?

You might consider getting drapes too long that "pool" on the floor. In some fabrics that looks nice, and you wouldn't have to get custom.

Hmmm, I don't know about that one. If I was as crafty as my grandma, I'd say to add some sort of frill or something to the bottoms of the 95" drapes, just enough to get to the floor. But I'm not that good!

I too have odd shaped large windows. I really want a simple blind for my front window, but because it's so wide, it'd cost me $250. So, I'm doing without. Sucks.
